Movie | Interzone | Liked It

Interesting to see this so soon after the surprisingly excellent America 3000. This film was pretty incoherent and featured a horrifically hard to hear dialogue track. At times, I couldn't even tell if they were speaking English or not. This was filmed in Italy (which was part of the problem, most likely) but it felt and looked Greek. Like A3, there were homosexual overtones throughout the film, but here it was ramped up several notches. For example, instead of a sexy dancing girl in a bar they've got a half naked dude grinding around and the muscle bound bouncer is wearing outrageously short hot pants. There's a lot of that going on and it's never really explained. Maybe the post-apocalyptic world values outward homosexuality more? But then, in the next scene, the poor dancer boy is getting punched in the stomach. It's weird. I'm thinking the somebody in the production just liked that sort of thing and thought it would be good to really focus on it; the director perhaps? And like in A3, many of the females are real life body builders who are extremely masculine (see the movie poster above).

Director Deran Sarafian did several other notable B-movies, including Death Warrant, and then got very busy directing for television, where he's at to this very day.

So this one was okay. If you're a subgenre freak like me, you'll enjoy it. Otherwise, skip it.
