I wanted to like this more.

Movie | The Heir Apparent: Largo Winch | PAss

Fantastic thriller! Had a very modern James Bond feel to it. If you like the recent installments of that franchise, you owe it to yourself to see this.

TV | Jam | PASS

If you try for something completely different and attempt to stretch the boundaries, you're guaranteed to alienate some people and fascinate others. This is one of those shows and I firmly fall into the later category. All six episodes were released again as "Jaaaaam". They are exactly the same, except they're fed through filters that make them even weirder and harder to watch...brilliant!!!! If you loved, loved, LOVED shows like "The Mighty Boosh", "Luxury Comedy" and you want to see what's in the twisted mind of the actor who played the first boss in "The IT Crowd" and created "Nathan Barley" and "Brass Eye", then this is a must see. Good luck finding it. It was very difficult for me.

TV | The Last Ship | PAss

Airheaded, but absolutely entertaining. What did you expect from Bay?

Movie | Starbuck | PASS

Astonishingly, one of the best movies I've seen this year. A comedy with real heart that deals with a rather lowbrow premise (it is R-rated), but is so much more. A must see!

There's the inevitable American remake (only 2 years after the original?!?), starring Vince Vaughn (wince) and the same director. I haven't seen that yet. Not sure I will.

Movie | The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest | PAss

While I still stick to exactly what I said about the remake of the original film, this third and final (we'll see) installment is really excellent. Though there are still plenty of disturbing elements, you can't go wrong with these adult thrillers.

I loved the Volvos featured throughout, especially in this film. Just great. And though many critics didn't really like this one, and they're not incorrect in identifying it as the slowest and least interesting of the three, this is still a very good movie.

Movie | Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows | Fail

Downey Jr., who speed-mumbles through the entire film, and Law are miscast once again in this bombastic mess of a movie, just like the first installment. The script was written by and for people who just don't care. Dreadful and I couldn't even finish it.

Movie | The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu | Fail

TV | The Wil Wheaton Project | Fail

It wasn't my cup of tea, but it might be yours! If you like celebrating nerds, the nerd lifestyle and the zero budget, green screen, The Soup-style set and Wheaton's personality, then this might be the show for you.

Movie | Harlan Ellison: Dreams With Sharp Teeth | PASs

Unflinching documentary focused on the cantankerous genius writer. A must see if you have any interest!

Movie | The Girl Who Played With Fire | PASs

Somebody claimed that the remake of the original film and the actress that played the hero were both inferior to the original. So, I went back and watched the original trilogy to verify my disagreement with that claim.

Sure enough, while they are excellent (on both counts), the remake has far more style, is much more creepy, the action better choreographed, the direction in another league (no surprise there), the cinematography hands-down better and the Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross soundtrack far superior. Whether the original actress is better than the actress in the remake is most certainly open to interpretation, but I'd say she was more compelling in the remake too. I'd rather see more of Rooney Mara. I even thought Daniel Craig was better.

Another thing I'd forgotten was how stupid the writer made the characters. They're more than willing to walk straight into potentially life-threatening situations without a plan or back-up. That's downplayed in the remake, which I greatly appreciated. They may be more blockbuster superhero-ish, but it's much less frustrating and eye-roll causing.

Besides all of that, these are must-see (very) adult thriller classics.

TV | Mr. Sloane | PAss

Nick Frost is so great and this show, though slow paced, has some interesting turns and nice low key humor.

Movie | The Weird World of Blowfly | PAss

Documentary about the barely known inventor of rap. He also created X-rated funk, so be prepared for adult language and images, though those are pretty mild, thankfully! In addition to all of that, he also wrote literally hundreds of songs for other people, mainly R&B, funk, soul and disco. An amazing, if highly controversial, musician who influenced everyone from The Red Hot Chili Peppers to Jello Biafra.

Movie | Frat House | Fail

Just too grotesque for me. Thanks for the loan, PW!

Movie | Odd Thomas | PAss

Though kind of teeny-bopperish at times, surprisingly scary and enjoyable. I hope they make a sequel.

TV | Halt And Catch Fire | PASs

Excellent. Does a great job of capturing the time, the cast is marvelous and the script intriguing and often surprising.

Movie | No One Dies In Lily Dale | PAss

A nice change of pace. Is it all real or is it all fantasy? You should watch it to decide for yourself.

Movie | Detropia | PAss

By the same folks that did the excellent Jesus Camp, but this is a movie I've seen (and read about, many times) before.

Movie | In Time | Pass

Not terrible, but not great either. I hope Timberlake continues to improve his craft, because there were faint glimmers of him being actually watchable. He still spends waaaay too much time posing, though. With the right director and project, he has the potential to actually be good. Probably not in a leading role, though. His previous roles were cringe-worthy. At least this wasn't. Mostly.
