TV | Fortitude | Didn't Like It
I don't really understand what the production team was thinking on this one. It reminded me of shows like The Red Road and Top of the Lake, in that this was an interesting premise set in an epic location featuring a great cast...and it's all boring and who cares. Too bad.
Movie | Black Belt | Liked It
Saw before. Saw it again. Liked it again. There are some elements that I absolutely loved, but overall this is a very simple movie and there aren't a lot of surprises.
Movie | What We Do In The Shadows | Really Liked It
Funny and charming mock documentary about vampire roommates. A must for Flight of the Conchords fans.

Movie | The Mighty Boosh Live:Future Sailors Tour | Really Liked It
Absolutely fantastic. This is backstage and behind the scenes, not concert footage. What a crappy way to live, frankly.

TV | Gadget Man | Liked It
I'd still rather watch these guys doing fiction, but this is better than nothing and they're all still brilliant (especially Ayoade, of course).
Movie | Gravity | Liked It
SPOILER ALERT! It felt like a sci-fi movie made for folks that never, ever see that genre and have no interest whatsoever in it. It's also rather boring. It's not a good thing when you don't really care if a main character dies (Clooney). Regardless, Bullock is great in it and, frankly, the only reason to see it.

Movie | The Maze Runner | Really Liked It
Still catching up with the teenybopper-oriented movies, this one was quite good. Reminded me of one of my favorites - Cube, mixed with Lord of the Flies.

TV | 12 Monkeys | Liked It
Unlike Gilliam's classic, there isn't much funky to this monkey. Still, it was pretty good, despite the SyFy channel taint.

Movie | TSOL: The Early Years Live | Liked It
Low quality video of two early 80s shows, the longest one at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA and the other somewhere else. There are some fun extras too, including an interview with the band as they sit on lounge chairs in the backyard somewhere drinking beers. This is unrepeatable stuff, a moment in time captured on tape. That SoCal scene will never happen again, which is too bad because there was some real genius there.

Movie | T.S.O.L. Live in O.C. | Liked It
I was gone from the scene by the time this performance happened, off to seek my fortune on the high seas of life. So it was a lot of fun to travel back in time and see this performance by another of my favorite bands.

Movie | Delivery Man | Liked It
It was fun, but there's no reason to see this over the original, Starbuck.

TV | The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff | Liked It
Great cast, clever adaptation of a truly tired tale. They need to leave Dickens and Shakespeare alone.

Movie | Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet | Liked It A Lot
A beautifully made documentary detailing the life of a guitar genius, struck down too early. Must see.

Movie | Mojave Phone Booth | Liked It
...but I don't think many other people will. This movie is what you get when you make a zero budget drama with recognizable actors, with intertwining stories. Shot on HD video, I found the lower quality cinematography to be distracting. Shooting in that format means you've got to be super tight with the editing, which occasionally lagged. And back when this was made, there were filters to improve the look and they should have used them. Still, I watched the whole thing and I've got to give them props - there were moments that I really liked and it made the whole thing worth seeing. And yes, that is Steve Guttenberg. He didn't have much of a role, but it was interesting to see him again after all these years.

TV | The Job Lot | Didn't Like It
...despite a really good cast lead by the great Sarah Hadland. It's somewhat similar to The Office, without the character development and set in a very depressing place.

TV | Broad City | Really Liked It
So, apparently my previous rating system of Pass/Fail confused some people. For the new year, I'm switching to a Liked It/Didn't Like It with special accentuation when called for.
This show was okay, at first. But I got into it the more I watched it. I've known folks like this, so I sort of enjoyed it from that angle. The humor usually goes for the gross angle and sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't. And they seem dead set on flipping gender roles with girls acting out the worst side of men.
I'll watch season two.
Update: The first two episodes of the show are rather weak and raunchy enough to really turn off a lot of people. What they miss is that after that, the show takes off like a rocket and becomes downright brilliant. I'm a huge fan now.
