Movie | Crimewave | Liked It
Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, co-written with the Coen Brothers and a role for Brion James. It was a bit nutso.
Movie | A Few Best Men | Didn't Like It
Maybe if we didn't already love Kris Marshall in Death in Paradise so much, would we have found it easier to see him in this role. But it seemed like he was older than the other guys who were supposed to be his best friends. And the rest of the movie was nothing to write home about, although it was fun to see Olivia Newton-John get wild.

Movie | The Guest | Really Liked It
I've been listening to the great soundtrack for this for months and was relieved that when I finally got around to it, the movie itself was excellent. Same writer as Dead Birds.

Movie | Blind Fury | Liked It
The SO had never seen this, so it was fun to see it again with her. For a Zatoichi rip-off, this is a cult classic...and so very period perfect.
TV | Blunt Talk | Didn't Like It
I really wanted to like this, mainly because of the neat cast and especially since Scarborough and Wells are in it. But I didn't.

Movie | Omega Doom | Liked It
A mysterious stranger arrives in a decimated city caught in
the middle of a war between two gangs, the only neutral territory a saloon…sounds
like a great Western, doesn’t it? Now, make all of the characters Terminators,
add a Flamenco-like soundtrack and you’ve got this flick by Albert Pyun, who
also created Radioactive Dreams and Vicious Lips. This movie is a bit more like
The Matrix and Hardware, add in some truly bad acting and subtract the superb cinematography and stunts. In fact,
the big showdown at the end is so badly done that it’s laughable. Still, well
worth seeing.
TV | Cordon | Didn't Like It
Just like the US remake, Containment, I found this to be more boring than anything else. If you've never seen a television show or movie like this, it will blow you away. Otherwise, it's nothing new and there's far better...in fact, it feels completely behind the times at this point in tv/film history.

Movie | Lifepod | Liked It
Despite being so cheesy, I rather liked this retelling of Hitchock's Lifeboat. I mean, it was just a television movie after all. But the cast made it for me. There's another film adaptation with the same premise from 1981 by the same title, but I've never seen it.
Movie | 2020 Texas Gladiators | Liked It
A group of mercenaries crash what appears to be a mutant party that’s engaged in murder, rape and general mayhem against a nun, a priest and some civilians (sounds like the setup for a joke). Why the good guys are shirtless with bandoliers across their oiled chests is beyond me. Maybe it was warm out?
Prior to making Endgame: Bronx Lotta Finale, Joe D’Amato and Al Cliver made this post-apocalyptic actioner that once again is confusingly titled. This time around instead of a reference to the Bronx that has nothing to do with the film, it’s Texas. You gotta ask yourself what they were smoking. Thankfully, the movie does take place in Texas, as referenced in the dialogue and the geography is sort of reminiscent. Imagine. I guess they just forgot in Endgame.
Plus, there are motorcycles. Bonus; the martial arts scenes are far superior.

Movie | Warriors of the Wasteland | Liked It
AKA The New Barbarians.
Mystery solved; this movie, like Endgame, is in no way related or connected script-wise to the Bronx Warrior duo (same director and Williamson returns, but not as the same character). There is no Bronx Warrior trilogy, no matter what anybody says; that's just baloney and not true. I don't know how anybody could ever come to that conclusion, unless they haven't truly seen all of these films and are just repeating the fabrication that seems to be all over the web.
But this was fun enough. Unfortunately, the Netflix DVD I saw was so compressed that it took the 35 mm print down below a really poor 16 mm. It was like watching a moving water color. So it's impossible to judge whether or not it had the visual pizazz of the Bronx movies. Probably not, is my guess. The cinematography was sub-par, or rather, BW is so superior as to set itself apart.
The sci-fi...ness is a bit more ramped up here, with the fantasy aspects even more silly and nonsensical. We're talking poofy-shouldered jackets on men, shiny metallic headbands and dinner plate-sized codpieces. Unfortunately, the script isn't quite as tight or interesting and the characters act far more irrationally, if that's possible and imaginable. So I'd rate this one as lesser than the films I just mentioned.
Great music, as usual.
Still worth seeing if you like Italian post-apocalypse flicks as much as I do. And who doesn't, really?

Movie | Crimson Peak | Didn't Like It
Guillermo del Toro biffs it again, and drags poor Charlie Hunnam down with him again. Good god this was bad...all visual and just the stupidest script imaginable. I'd hoped that del Toro had broken the curse with The Strain. He didn't, with a vengeance.

Movie | The Place Beyond the Pines | Didn't Like It
But I did watch the whole thing. The way the story wound around was intriguing, but overall it wasn't an enjoyable or satisfying experience. Gosling's acting didn't work for me, either. It was sort like he was doing Drive all over again, but then the character would get shrill in places that didn't make any sense. A fail.

Movie | Comet | Liked It-ish
Sam Esmail, the genius behind Mr. Robot, made this feature film before he made that ground-breaking television series. It's stunningly made and quite literally beautiful, both Long and Rossum are absolutely superb, there are most certainly clever bits...but it wasn't an enjoyable experience watching it. Interesting, a bummer and yet I'm not upset that I watched it.

Movie | Shredder Orpheus | Liked It
There are cult movies and then there are deep underground cult movies. This is one of the later. A mix of Greek legend, very early 90s New Wave rock and set in a post-apocalyptic world were most people ride skateboards, this was just so very classic. A keeper!

Movie | Blue Ruin | Really Liked It
Jeremy Saulnier and Macon Blair knock it out of the park with this crime drama. Really excellent, reminded me of the equally superb Cold in July.
Movie | Welcome to Blood City | Liked It
This dark and relentlessly ominous Twistern is supposedly the first feature film to have virtual reality in it. I don't know if that's true, but the flick is reminiscent of Westworld, minus the robots. Jack Palance is spectacular as the psychotic sheriff of a town where there are distinct castes.
Although it's possible the copy I have is of a lesser quality, the film gauge used to make this film was of poor quality. The picture was blurry and the cropping extreme. Still, it was clear that this was made by a team that was used to shooting for television. In fact, while director Peter Sasdy is remembered for making several Hammer films, his primary bread and butter were television shows and it's abundantly clear with all of the tight closeups.
Roy Budd created an interesting soundtrack that features a really annoying and at the same time intriguing main tune that consists of Jaws-like horns and strings.
At the end of the day, this was well worth watching and though it's difficult to find, I highly recommend it to all Twistern fanatics.

Movie | Endgame: Bronx Lotta Finale | Liked It
Let’s get right to it; is this movie the final installment
of the Bronx Warrior trilogy that includes 1990:
A Bronx Warrior and Escape from the
Bronx, or not? The short answer in my opinion is no, it most definitely is
not. It bears no resemblance, nor any connection to the previous films that I
could detect; though it is supposedly set in New York, I don’t recall any reference
to it in the dialogue.

Movie | Andron | Liked It-ish
There were far too many things just terribly wrong with this movie, especially Baldwin and Glover...I mean, what it all that is holy in moviedom?...but I've definitely seen worse, there were elements and moments that were okay and I did end up watching the entire thing. One thing that wasn't bad was the soundtrack was pretty good and made many of the more ridiculous scenese tolerable. Definitely not a must see.

Movie | The Cell | Didn't Like It
The gorgeous, Mindscape-esque opening scene caught my interest but then two things collided that made me jump ship; JLo and the tortureporn. No thanks. Maybe I could have looked past her, but not the second thing.

Movie | The Scorch Trials | Liked It
Very good sequel to Maze Runner. Well worth watching. Big budget action-adventure doesn't get much better than this!
Movie | Hidden | Really Liked It
Some people won't be as impressed by this as I was, but I thought this was a spectacular first feature by the genius Duffer Brothers (Stranger Things).

Movie | The Last Witch Hunter | Liked It
Vin Diesel is okay as a modern day witch hunter, but as a Viking...? Unfortunately, he's miscast. Fortunately, they got a pretty darn decent cast dancing around him. Gilguuuuuuuuuuuun!!!!!!!!!
TV | Feed The Beast | Really Liked It
Excellent. Reminded me of Whites a bit, though this show is dead serious. Looking forward to the next season.

Movie | Death Collector | Liked It
Futuristic and a Western in description and costuming only. Pacing and editing problems, but for a Z-grade flick, it was really rather good! Awesome soundtrack and cars.

Fun to see again after all these years. They haven't remade this one yet (other than the TV series)?

Movie | Leviathan | Liked It
A mashup of The Thing, Alien and other, similar movies underwater. Without this cast, it wouldn't have been worth watching. But it was, because they were.
