Movie | These Final Hours | Really Liked It
Excellent Aussie action/drama about a the final hours of a pre-apocolypse. Great star (Nathan Phillips) and the director (Zak Hilditch) did a fine job. You know how this one's going to end..

Movie | Z for Zachariah | Liked It
Well done contemplative post-apocalyptic drama filled with interesting metaphors. I think most viewers would be frustrated by the script, but I really liked it.

Movie | Bad Channels | Liked It
Nowhere near as good as TerrorVision and if I wasn't already such a big fan of that film, I'm sure I wouldn't enjoy this one as much as I did. It's ultra-cheese, but the spin here is that Martha Quinn appears and the soundtrack is by Blue Oyster Cult. Frankly, it's some of the worst I've ever heard out of them. There are a couple of scenes in the movie where there are three different rock bands playing; BOC, DMT and Sykotik Sinfoney. All of those appear on the mentioned soundtrack, with the addition of Joker, Fair Game and The Ukelaliens. But none of that caught my eye; what did was the scene with DMT, which exactly the same as the famous Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video. I know that it's been said that inspiration for that video came from other sources, but I don't believe it any longer. This film was!
Or is it....? Nirvana's song came out in 1991 and Bad Channels was released in 1992. So maybe it's the other way around...only Cosmo and Lump know!

Movie | The Forbidden Room | Liked It
Madden does his usual shtick which is, as always, simultaneously beautiful and grotesque. I find it a bit hard to watch his movies, as much as I appreciate them. They're challenging on purpose and not always in a good way. I find myself constantly asking myself two things, "What the heck is going on?" and "Do I want to keep watching this?" And therein lies the beauty of it all; he creates fantastical, dreamy worlds that are familiar and also completely alien. He's a genius and a devil wrapped in a single fur coat. You gotta be a real film freak to actually like and appreciate his films. Like me.
Movie | Crawlspace | Liked It
This Australian science fiction-action-horror movie by new director Dix (who is an FX expert) hit me just right. If it had been a tiny bit more stylish and the music a bit more special, it would have been a real knockout. As it was, it was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it. Somewhat reminiscent of the first Resident Evil.

Movie | Deathwatch | Liked It
Did this movie give Kris Marshall a decent role? Nope. Felt awfully familiar, but I just can't quite remember which movie(s) it reminded me of. Still an interesting war/horror flick, tho.

Movie | The Great Silence | Liked It-ish
After reading about it for years, I finally got around to this cult classic Western. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. To me, there wasn't enough character development and even the stars were only mildly interesting. And the pacing...was...so...slow...bad enough that it wandered fairly consistently into boring territory. Granted, the history and story behind this film is spectacular, but I wanted to like it so much more. Many of the elements that reviewers point out as "groundbreaking" and "unique" are not, existing in plenty of other flicks released before this one. In the end, this movie is just not that special.

Movie | Police Story: Lockdown | Liked It
I can't believe there's been six Police Story movies! Never saw number five; might have to. This movie was slow/boring/not engaging to get going, a bit confusing (on purpose) and quite dark in undertone. Turned out to be pretty darn good. Jackie doesn't appear to be slowing down in the slightest, but I like that they didn't have him playing a younger role. A worthy action flick.
