What?!? Fail?!? Yep.
With all the hype, I was really looking forward to this "game-changer" cable television show. And that might be part of my problem. The expectations are so high that it has to blow me away to be any good. So, what were the major problems?
Firstly, I'm not that interested in medieval times. I was when I was 12 (that was long time ago!), but I guess I'm not anymore. So, there has to be some twist to the whole thing. There is here, in the horror elements, but there isn't enough of it to keep my interest.
They also ramped up the sex and violence. But, it's all pretty much gratuitous, so who cares.
The writing is atrocious. There are so many plot threads that character development suffers massively. Admittedly, I only watched the first couple of episodes, but I didn't care about or empathize with any character other than Sean Beans'. When they kill somebody you're supposed to really care about (usually accompanied by melodramatic music to indicate that you're to react at that point)...shouldn't you give two hoots? I didn't, whatsoever.
Maybe I'll try again some other time. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood. For now, let's just say it wasn't my cup of tea and leave it at that.
