Movie | The Vagrant | Really Liked It
Completely deserves cult classic status. I'd never heard of it, until it popped up on some obscure cable station. Too bad because it deserves recognition. Bill Paxton is awesome.

Movie | Chappie | Liked It
So far, my least favorite Blomkamp film. And yet, even though it owes more than a little to Robocop, it's still brilliant and possesses a uniqueness that there just isn't enough of.
Movie | Dom Hemingway | Didn't Like It
I didn't like this but I watched the whole thing anyway. It wasn't good and it felt like it had been done before, many times.

TV | The Man in the High Castle | Liked It
So far, just a pilot. But it's been picked up for a full season, whatever that means these days. Good adaptation of the original story by Phillip K. Dick.

Movie | Happy | Liked It
The conclusions were well, duh ones. This isn't a bad movie; it just isn't a very compelling one, either.
Movie | I Origins | Didn't Like It
What? A movie with Brit Marling in it that I didn't like? Yep. The main character was unlikeable, no fault of the actor portraying him. They just didn't make him somebody I'd care enough about to watch for the entire length of a movie. Maybe the movie was trying too hard in general, too. It was self aware in the extreme.
Too bad.
Too bad.

TV | The Wrong Mans | REALLY Liked It
Fantastic four-part mini-series that wraps everything up. Just as great as the first series.

TV | Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell | Didn't Like It
There were moments but it's pretty boring overall and the fact that it's a period piece just makes it worse.

Movie | Mesrine Pt. 2: Public Enemy #1 | Really Liked It
Like Part One, I've seen this before. Cassel is the man.

Movie | A Dog's Breakfast | Really Liked It
Super fun low budget dark comedy featuring an excellent but minuscule cast by the guy that made Cube.

Movie | Spy | Liked It
Exactly what you think you'd get and featuring a great cast. Some over the top language and a surprising number of shots to the head in slo-mo but McCarthy is so great as the lead. The other funny thing about this is that it was so high-def that you could see the mountains of makeup on all of the actors and every imperfection in their faces. It was a bit distracting, I will admit. Somebody forgot their soft lens.

TV | Sense8 | REALLY Liked It
The Wachowskis keep reaching for something more and they were very successful this time, unlike Cloud Atlas, which blundered into the ridiculous and suffered some truly ham-handed acting by the mega-star cast. Unlike that oopsie, this is an amazing show full of great characters, a brilliant cast, fantastic music and an inspired production. It's an interesting platform to explore some LBGT issues, too, as if this was in collaboration with Armistead Maupin (I don't think it was, though). I wonder how much of that was the impetus for the show, initially? It occasionally feels heavy-handed but it's all with purpose. So be warned; this show has a lot of sexuality in it.
The cast is perfect and the great Tom Tywker is involved; directing and soundtrack!
Special and most definitely not for the casual viewer, who will be lost and mystified. I don't mean that as an insult but if your bar of criteria is set at Two and a Half Men, then you're not going to like this.
But this show is...epic.

Movie | The Ice Pirates | Liked It
Intentionally cheesy space opera starring Robert Ulrich, featuring Ron Perlman in his second movie role ever, a very young looking 30-something though painfully underutilized Anjelica Huston and one of John Carradine's final roles. Yeah...it couldn't really miss with me, now could it? But the soundtrack wasn't just dated, it was horrible. I've heard better music in elevators.

Movie | Big Hero 6 | Really Liked It
Very enjoyable, though predictable. Fun characters and a good script with some great action scenes.
But wait a minute...WHAT IN THE SAM HILL!?! Like some of the crappy manga these days, Attack on Titan for example, flops like 47 Ronin and the half-decent The Last Samurai, this movie co-ops every bit of the Japanese culture but seems ashamed to feature actual Japanese characters. The animation clearly avoids any visual reference to Japanese facial features, the eyes and nose in particular, and yet just about every tiny detail in the entire flick is Japanese. That's borderline racism, in my book and utterly bizarre. Still, a fun movie if you can get past that glaring negative.
Thanks for the loan, AS!

TV | The Whispers | Really Liked It
Very interesting, well done and I'm really looking forward to seeing how it plays out. I hope it stays as intense.

TV | Daredevil | Liked It
Well done and enjoyable but the scripts are not very original and nothing unexpected happens. Excellent if you never watch any outstanding action movies, merely good if you do. Great fight choreography but the acting occasionally falters. Again, that may be more of a problem with the writing than anything else.

Movie | Above & Beyond: Live at Madison Square Garden | Liked It
Unbelievably fantastic music from an album that I haven't stopped listening to since I got it. But there's nothing more stupid than watching DJs standing around on stage with nothing to do other than wave their arms and bounce.
